Repeat After Me — Torture Doesn’t Work

Bear in mind the primary purpose of torture as applied by Americans was to get individuals to start talking. It was observed that as long as terrorist knew they couldn’t be mistreated they would just shut their mouth and we learned nothing. Once they break down and start talking is the time to make them feel comfortable. Not that I’m justifying torture. The truth of the matter is like combat unless you’ve been there it’s impossible to predict how you will act until you find yourself in the catbird seat.
