This Is Not Your Father’s Iraqi Army

Proper Grip , Bear in mind in the from 2009 when our troops were pulled out, Prime Minister Maliki systematically purged the government and officer corps of all Sunni leaders. And remarkable the peoples response was still to peacefully protest. In clash after clash Army units led by Shia’s shot more and more protesters. Eventually the Sunni protesters complacency broke and they welcomed Al Qaeda back and instead got ISIS. Needless to say when Maliki ordered his military to attack ISIS most of his officer’s fled and the Sunni troops supported ISIS had no reason to fight. What’s noteworthy is how long it took. Frontline did a excellent series of shows on the topic worth watching.
