AI Foundational Model’s Dilemma: Safety or Innovation?

The AI safety problem is a critical issue in foundational models, particularly in open source models like Llama, Mistral, and Gemma. Customization of the alignment process is necessary for different cultures, countries, communities, and enterprises. However, the alignment process should only be applied in the application layers during deployment, not in the development stage. For Meta or Google, who own the foundation models, their internal alignment process could be applied in the upper layers (eg QLoRA) or in applications ( eg. ChatBot)during deployment.

It’s crucial to have uncensored foundational models for pure reasoning engine support in the development stage, rather than a handicap foundational model. Let’s work together to make AI safer and more efficient for everyone.

If the LLM foundational model is the OS in the AI world, we don’t want to handicap it for alignment too early in the development stage.
