I’d argue that Alphabet has the knowledge and the platform to share AR. I take it you haven’t seen Google’s recent Google Lens announcement at I/O. If you did, then you’d see the immense potential it has.
It was shown that Lens could instantly scan Wi-Fi passwords off routers and enter them. It could scan an image to see what landmark or even business the image was a photo of. Now that’s what I call an efficient use of Street View resources. This is certainly playing in to Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
The Google app is on a couple billion camera-equipped devices around the world. I’m not sure how how that isn’t a platform to share AR. Sure, not all the cameras and processors are of the highest order, but Google can (and will) easily push an update that will enable AR support globally.
I don’t see why Google would or should work with Apple in this situation.
