INTRODUCTION
The automotive industry is constantly evolving, with new trends and patterns emerging in car sales each year. As a data enthusiast, I embarked on a journey to uncover the secrets behind these sales trends and present them in an engaging and informative manner. Through extensive analysis and visualization of a comprehensive car sales dataset.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To analyze trends in car sales over the given time period .
  • Identify top selling Car brand
  • Indentify buyers’ preferences to car status.
  • Most expensive and cheapest car sold.
  • Countries with the most car purchase.

THE DATASET

The dataset used for this project was gotten from kaggle.com. It is a demo data and does not represent any real world findings. The dataset contains 21 columns and 10,000 rows. The data contains information from 2002 — 2020.

DATA CLEANING

The dataset came fairly clean, but in order to ensure effective analysis and accurate insights the dataset had to be cleaned. I removed duplicates and blank spaces. To make sure for a seamless analysis, each column was formatted accordingly. Formatting columns according to their values make it easier to use formulas and functions to perform arithmetic operations on the dataset.

To further improve the legibility of the dataset, I increased the font size and changed the color contrast to make it easy for every audience to read.

DATA ANALYSIS

The data was analysed to meet the objectives of the analysis, answer business questions, provide insights and make recommendations.

In order to identify sales trend over over the years, the ‘=YEAR’ function was used to pull year of sales from the ‘Purchase_date’ column, this new column was named ‘Purchase_Year’.

COUNTIF function was used to count the number of sales made in each of the years. SUMIF function was also used to add up the revenue generated from each of the years. A combo chart was plotted to represent these values.

INSIGHTS

From the results of the analysis, the dealership made a sum of $553m with 10,000 car sales over the time period analyzed.

The top selling car brand was Ford which had over 860 sales, and followed by Chevrolet at 800 sales.

Buyers showed more preference for brand new cars, with 51% of buying opting for new cars as against 49% in favor of used cars.

China tops as the country with the most car purchases, with over 1800 car purchases and $102m in spending, closely followed by Indonesia at 1045 car purchases and $59m spending.
