What about empathy? Empathy is a pretty word for exclusion. If you want to know how women would use something you’re designing get a woman on the team that’s designing it.

I like where you’re going with the above, but gently disagree here. It is critical that design consider and get to understand the viewpoints of the target audience. BEING that audience however is not the solution. One of the largest problems in design is when designers convince themselves they are representative of the target audience instead of relying on objective research to avoid getting lost in our own reflections.
