Alcoholics are often described as being in a state of denial. In the past, they would deny drinking and instead focus on their thoughts and emotions. Their denial is what makes them so dangerous. , but that isn’t always the case. As long as their drinking is minimal, it may be difficult to find them in the early days of sobriety.

If they truly believe they can control their behavior, then they are probably able to hide the fact that they’re an alcoholic and still drink. They’ll also be incredibly motivated to feel better about themselves if given a possible reward of being sober. The danger comes when this motivation is reduced or eliminated altogether.

Once an alcoholic successfully abstains from alcohol, it becomes much more difficult to keep them in check. They might find themselves immersed in a haze of drinking for the rest of their lives or they could end up abusing drugs and/or committing suicide.

Alcoholics can become very aggressive and it ‘s not uncommon to see them hit someone or spray-paint a wall. They can become so obsessed with alcohol that they can’t be trusted by others. If an alcoholic does have a problem controlling his behavior, getting help for it may be too difficult for him to do on his own.
