As somebody who wrote loads of Perl in the 2000-2005 time frame, and has now, like almost everybody else, upgraded to Python, I wish they’d just leave Perl static. Then we wouldn’t have to waste money retesting legacy Perl apps on the newest version every couple of years, in case new features we don’t want breaks code that’s been unchanged for years. I’d love to stay on 2005 Perl but corporate security policy dictates we upgrade to non-EOL version.

Sometimes things should just be left to die gracefully.
