Visual trigger for Facebook post type

Pioneering new visual triggers within the Facebook publishing constraints.

→ I bring you THE ARROW INDICATOR

This method is achieved using the Facebook Photo Carousel Post Type (above) with the 2nd posted image designed to show an arrow element to entice the viewer to go to the next ‘slide’ or swipe / tap.

This idea came to me a week or so ago and I’ve been wanting to try it out. I found that when you do a custom image stack when posting an exterior LINK, Facebook turns the display into a carousel of swipe-able images (Each of which launch out to the LINK). They show a ‘peek’ of the 2nd image in the stack and we can take advantage of that to use it like an interface control with a big ARROW element to visually engage the visitor to swipe over or tap to the next one.

You can get creative with the lockup of the sequential images, similar to what we’ve seen happen in the iOS app store with their image previews. With simple color matching and shape definition you can make this post type more engaging to the viewer. It’s simple, but clever.

Here’s how:

Tip: The ‘peek’ amount of the 2nd image is slightly different for desktop vs. mobile view.

Without a doubt, this is a simple approach — but standing out in every little way is what it is all about. When you can find a way to do that within the constraints of the publishing system, even better.

Over & out,
