Audrey Hepburn is a legendary actress known for roles in films such as Roman Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and My Fair Lady. Although she is a legend in her role, her achievements far surpass those who we see on the big screen.

As I dived into the world of film, I learned so much and the more I read about Audrey Hepburn, the more I understood why she is an icon to many around the world.

1. She helped the Resistance during World War 2

Not a secret, but Audrey fought against Nazi Germany. She donated the money she earned from performing ballet to the resistance. She also acted as a courier and delivered papers and money between resistance fighters. Her actions become even more brave when we learnt that her parents were actually members of the British Union of Fascists. Rejecting your parent’s ideology at a young age is a tough thing to do.

2. Her slender figure was due to malnourishment.

Again, during WW11, Audrey and her family moved to Holland, hoping they would be safe from the Nazis, which turned out to not be true. After the Nazis occupied Holland, their food supply was cut off and she, like the other citizens, became malnourished. This is ironic, as her figure and beauty became envied by everyone.
