What Lies Have You Heard About Finding Your Purpose?

Purpose: The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists; one’s intention or objective.
Hey, many have tried to break down the definition of purpose into simpler terms that one can understand but the truth is that they are confused themselves. Why? Because we have lived with this belief that finding purpose or knowing what your purpose is in life is supposed to be an inspiring statement about a thing. They think that finding your “purpose” means finding just one thing you’re good at and focus on that thing alone. That is a wrong definition of purpose.
When you’re asked ‘’what’s your purpose?’’, people expect to hear answers that have to do with one thing that you’re very good at; thus, when you describe yourself as being one thing, that’s all you’ll ever be. If you think you’re good at football and you decide that ‘‘this is my purpose’’; well, that’s pretty much it cos you’ve restricted your mind into believing that it can be nothing else but just being good at football. But what about those who don’t even know what they’re good at? Or worse, what about those that are good but they’ve listened to so many lies about what they think they are from others that they no longer believe in themselves or know what they are good at?

How about I explain purpose in a way that has never been explained frequently before. Before you do get to find out what your purpose is in life, you have to find out what your passions are: is it football, singing, talking, dancing, etc. Everyone has something they are passionate about and most times, it isn’t always as obvious as you may want it to be. There are things that you can be passionate about that cannot be seen but felt (an example could be your attitude towards people).
When you figure out what you are passionate about; then the next step is to utilize those passions, so as to serve others; and that my friend, is your purpose. Jay Shetty puts it in a better way when he says ‘’Your passions are for you. But when you use those passions for the benefit of others, that becomes your purpose’’. See, it’s that simple. Hope you didn’t think I was gonna write some deep lines and the rest. All that just leads you to the road of illusion and total nothingness.
So hey my friend, don’t go about seeking other people to tell you your purpose. Take your time and figure out what you spend most of your time with cos that’s definitely your passion. And don’t forget, the things that we are passionate about isn’t just one thing, they become numerous with time and when they become much, know that when you pursue those passions for the greater good, you’re doing nothing but fulfilling purpose.
