Microsoft finally rolled out Windows 10 version 1803 for everyone with a number of new features and improvements. But it seems the current Windows 10 April 2018 Update build also brings some major bugs as well. Recently users report After install windows 10 version 1803 chrome browser crashes Windows 10 April 2018 update. Microsoft acknowledges the issue and promises to fix the bug on next patch update on may 8. Now again a new issue reported by users on forums, at Reddit and on Twitter “Explorer.exe crashing every 3–5 seconds” rendering a user’s machine more or less unusable. It seems the issue appears related to the new TimeLine feature and occurs when the TimeLine synchronizes user activity to the cloud.
Microsoft has yet to officially acknowledge this problem but Meanwhile, there is a temporary solution that you can use to fix this problem.
Temporary turning off the syncing of the Timeline feature may solve the problem. Do this only if you don’t mind wiping off your activity history and not using the Timeline feature. Here’s how to do it.
- Go to Start Menu. Click on Settings (gear icon).
- Select Privacy.
- From the left pane, select Activity History.
- Uncheck “Let Windows sync my activities from this PC to the cloud“.
- Then Click the Clear button under Clear activity history. This should stop Explorer.exe crashing.
One more solution you may try is completely disabling the Timeline Feature. You can do this from settings -> privacy -> Activity history And uncheck the option “Let Windows collect my activities from this PC.
