Search Icon
To help users recognize the search bar on our app, we used a search icon as a visual symbol part of the search bar. The search icon makes a search bar more recognisable and easier to find for the users. Human eyes can recognise them faster than texts and they tell more than words and require less space to be applied.
Placeholder
Placeholder text is an informative and short text describing an action that we expect users to take. They are used to guide and help users accomplish their goals. It’s like offering a helping hand.
Search placeholder texts are usually in light colors which have a poor contrast against most background colors. Now, we’ll look into the importance of color contrast and some problems related to accessibility that come with it.
Color contrast & accessibility
Color contrast presents the difference between two different colors defined as contrast ratio. If the placeholder has poor contrast, it is difficult to read the text for users with visual impairment. That applies to all the colors we use.
