How to Use Paint Cocreator to Generate AI Images from Text

MS Paint can now create images from text inputs. Microsoft rolls out the DALL-E-powered Cocreator feature on MS Paint for AI-generated pictures. DALL-E can generate diverse and realistic images from any text description you enter. Whether you want to draw a dragon, a unicorn, or anything else, Cocreator will help you unleash your creativity and make your own artwork with the help of AI.

To make use of the Paint Cocreator feature, ensure that your Windows Insider PC is running the latest available build. Additionally, check the Microsoft Store for any updates to the Paint app.

The Cocreator functionality is accessible in Paint version 11.2309.20.0 or higher, so ensure you’ve updated to this version to access it.

Follow these steps to utilize the Paint Cocreator feature:

  1. Launch the Paint app.
  2. Navigate to the top menu and click on the Cocreator icon. This action will open the feature in a side pane.
  3. Provide a detailed description of the image you wish to generate using AI. For instance, you can type something like “a blue cat with a red hat” or “a landscape with mountains and a lake”.
  4. After you enter the text, “Choose a style” option, click the dropdown list. You can either select an option from the list or leave it unselected.
  5. Click on the “Create” button.

Please be patient as the feature generates the images based on the prompt you provided. This process may take some time as it creates and retrieves the images from the server. The feature will produce three sets of images for each prompt.

Once the images are generated, you can select them to add to your existing image or an empty canvas.

To save the generated image, click on the ellipses icon associated with the image and choose the “Save image” option. Give the image a name and click “Save” to store it in PNG format.

Keep in mind that creating an image consumes one credit per use.

Credits are the currency that you use to generate images with Cocreator. Each time you generate an image, you spend one credit. You can see how many credits you have left on the bottom right corner of the Cocreator pane.

You will receive 50 credits to create images when you join Cocreator.

  • Initially, there is a waitlist for using this feature. If you are interested, join the waitlist from the Cocreator side panel. You will receive an email when you get approved to use Cocreator.
  • Cocreator is currently available only in the following regions — the United States, France, UK, Australia, Canada, Italy and Germany.
  • Only the English language is supported at this time.
