Early Pregnancy Scan in Coventry

Pregnancy is full of anticipation. You’re curious about how your kid will appear and, more importantly, whether he or she will be healthy.

Typically, a first-trimester ultrasound is performed 7 to 8 weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period. The key issue is to confirm pregnancy dates to ensure that we have an exact due date, that we can observe the baby’s heartbeat, and that there is one, or more than one, fetus.

Early Pregnancy Scan Coventry may also be used by your doctor to check for genetic disorders as well as to detect any problems with your uterus or cervix. If you’re eager to find out the gender of the baby, you’ll have to wait a little longer. The gender will be revealed, as well as further information about your baby’s anatomy, during your next ultrasound, which will take place between weeks 18 and 22 of your pregnancy.

A standard ultrasound produces a two-dimensional cross-sectional picture of your baby. Some clinics promote 3D and even 4D ultrasounds, which create a more photorealistic picture of your baby. These high-tech scans aren’t required, but they may be desirable if you fear your kid has an anomaly such as a cleft palate, which is difficult to detect with 2D imaging.

A prenatal ultrasound may be performed in one of two ways: transabdominal (over your belly) or transvaginal (via your cervix, into your vagina). A transvaginal ultrasound may be performed if you are extremely early in your pregnancy because it gives a more accurate picture of your still-tiny baby.

You should come in with a full bladder for a transabdominal ultrasound. A full bladder raises your uterus and pushes your intestines out of the way, making it easier to see.

The technician will apply gel to a piece of portable equipment known as a transducer and slide it around your stomach. The transducer sends out sound waves that bounce off the fetus’s bones, fluids, and tissues, creating a picture of the baby within your womb. On a video screen, you’ll be able to watch your kid.

You’ll strip from the waist down and place your feet up in stirrups for a transvaginal ultrasound, much as you would for a pelvic exam. Before inserting the transducer into your vagina, the technician will wrap it with a condom-like sheath and lubrication.
