Closing cerberus

This is our letter that goes together with the text proposal to permanently close the Cerberus chain. It is assumed that the chain is flawed due to the lack of support and execution from the founding party (see section ‘Reason for the end of Cerberus’). This is our letter to say bye bye to this chain and maybe start a new adventure that corrects the flaws identified.

Status of the chain

Cerberus chain was launched the 13th March 2022. It has been upgraded 4 times. The last 4 months IBC communication was interrupted due to the dragonberry halt, in combination with a hidden bug on the original code. This bug has been repaired on the last upgrade (v3.1.0) and the last step is to check the reprisal the original clients for IBC communication. *(live update: it actually works)

Reason for the end of Cerberus

The reason for stopping maintenance is that there’s no sense to keep working to a chain where 41% of the supply is owned by a single, disappeared founder.

CC-0. Fissure (PSF)

There have been no direct inputs to development or progress in the last 6 months by the founder party. An attempt of communication can be found here.

Tasks that could have been done by the founder, as for example the airdrop for osmo and atom holders, would have resulted in better community distribution, as this was one of the points on the original roadmap.

If the chain continues to be built with this distribution, the disappeared founder could sweep the liquidity more than 14 times (what would be called rug). This risk will exist until the chain is closed or the founder collaborates to comply with the original roadmap and spirit of the chain (a community owned chain).

The abandonment of the chain is taken as in good faith and for personal reasons. Also in good faith and in order to build better systems (other chains) we have proposed the permanent closure of the chain after due diligence.

Compendium of our due diligence and work:

Apart from the coordination of the Validator channel at Discord & helping with technical issues in Telegram/Discord, find here a compendium of our tasks in order to sustain the chain.:

Proposals:

Legacy of a Closed Cerberus and no way forward

By voting ‘yes’ this proposal we’ll make sure that the chain is closed, regardless of the technical status of the chain, and assuming the chain is worth zero.

By voting ‘no’ to this proposal, we’ll exit smoothly the chain as a validator and wish good luck to the remaining valset.

In any case will keep and will be happy to provide an eventual copy of an Archive node (around 1.7TB without indexers), if needed.

It is explicitly intended that this closure lays down an example of how to close a PoS chain. Check out similar works by our colleagues, e.g.: Polkachu’s Intern https://polkachu.com/blogs/kill-bill-vol-cosmos

Next steps

We encourage everyone to remain staked or ‘Osmosis-Pool-662–14Day-locked’ and still bonded (unbounded will not be taken into account) until we take a snapshot around the 14th February 2023 between 7 and 8:00 UTC. It must be generally known that if this proposal passes, those will be probably lost funds (going to zero). Immediately after a snapshot is announced it would be recommended to try to withdraw the funds to Osmosis. In any case, the Community, by voting yes to this proposal, is assuming that any remaining value will be zero.

Windpowerstake’s private funds comprise ~75 Million Cerberus at the time of writing. We will wait at least until the 1st of March 2023 before transferring them into Osmosis.

Thanks

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing us to represent you. We sincerely hope that your experience with our validator was satisfactory and that you may consider windpowerstake as your future validator in any chain. We would be nothing without our delegators.

Conclusion

While this concludes our representation of some of our stakers and tasks within the chain, please don’t hesitate to reach out in the future should you have any further validation needs and wish to discuss retaining our services again. Do not hesitate to leave us a message on any social media. We will be happy to take any feedback that makes your experience improve.

Sincerely,
