People always choose wine for social gatherings and special occasions. It has been every adult’s most favorite beverage. However, buying and consuming wines in Singapore is kind of expensive due to high taxes and goods and services tax or GST. In fact, the country has been ranked as the sixth most expensive city in the world for wines.

Although you will not be getting wine bottles at a cheap price tag, there are still places to get decent wine at an affordable price. Get amazing wine deals from these sectors below:

l Supermarket. In Singapore, there are some NTUC Fair Price and Cold Storage outlets that sell a wide range of wines, even those that you can occasionally find in most wine cellars. If you are a newbie and you simply want to try out wine’s goodness, you can already get a bottle for a price ranging from $20 to $40. Also, for only $20 membership fee, you can already be a member of NTUC Fairprice Wine Club which automatically gives you an 8% discount on all their wines, even the ones on sale.

l Credit Card Privileges. Fortunately for credit card holders, there are some credit cards that have tie-ups with establishments, bars, and restaurants at a cheaper to free price tag. A few examples of these are the American Express Platinum Card and UOB YOLO Card.

l Wine Merchant Specials and Wine Club Memberships. Some bigger branches of NTUC Fairprice amazingly have a sizeable wine section that could hold some good deals. For instance, their Rawson’s Retreat was sold at half its usual price for a purchase of two bottles or more. That is on top of Just Wine Club’s membership’s 8% discount. Also, there are special offerings from wine merchants’ websites like WinesOnline, Wine.Delivery, and Crystal Wines that are worth checking out. They usually give discounts to members and regular costumers on top of the occasional 15% discount via promotions.

There are also a wide number of wine retailers in Singapore and like the ones that sell online, the wines they sell are usually priced significantly lower than those at restaurants or bars. Some of these include:

1. Merchants. — Merchants is new in the market and they sell more of Australian and New Zealand wines. Discounts await if you buy in bulk.

2. The Straits Wine Company — You probably have heard of this retailer as there are branches located at East Coast Road and Bukit Timah Road.

3. Wine Connection — A wide collection of wines await at an affordable price range. You can even try out a glass for only $7 should you decide to chill out for a while.

l Wine subscription. Joining a wine subscription service is a good decision if you are a regular wine purchaser and would like to try out a range of wines but are kind of lazy to go through the whole selection process. There are a number of available wine subscriptions in Singapore, like the ones termed monthly. For instance, you can go for a $79 monthly subscription that automatically gets you two monthly French wines selected by a 3-starred sommelier. Each month, you get to receive a shipment of a certain number of wines and sometimes they are delivered straight to your doorstep.

l Wine Importers. Of course, like in any business, wine retailers get their wines from some place — some direct suppliers. If you are lucky enough or you can get an easy access to these wine importers, you get to pay way less, even less than the deals you have been offered to all your “wine life”. The thing, though, is they usually do not have a shopfront. Nonetheless, you can still make an appointment to browse their galleries. However, more often than not, low prices are offered only if you purchase in bulk orders.

l Order Wine By The Case. Like in wine importers, you can also have savings if you order wine by the case. Basically, the more you buy, the more you save. If you order in bulk, delivery charges are also waived more often than not.

· Wine Events. Attending in Wine Events let you taste and learn about amazing wines and the good thing is, they are often sold at a discounted rate. However, most of these events are ticketed starting at $30 per head.
