Many people are yet under the assumption that slavery ended a long time ago, after the various wars that took place across the world. However, ironically and tragically this is not even close to the truth. In today’s times there are more slaves than there have ever been at any point of time in human history. Who are these slaves that we are referring to? Non other, than the innocent children who are born into impoverished families in India and across the world.
Whether they are found working in the fields, in coal mines, as domestic laborers, brothels, firecracker units, carpet weaving, the silk industry, restaurants, in the gem diamond industry or even the agriculture industry; you can find child laborers in some of the most menial and dangerous jobs.

So, how to stop child labor on a whole? Although, we may not be able to tackle this problem and eradicate the problem as a whole there are many things that each and every one of us can do. While there are many organizations that work towards the various issues that are faced by these children, you can support different child campaigns, make donations, engage in the different activities and projects that the NGO’s working for these causes engage in and support fundraising to educate these children.

A social evil that is known to be common the world over, India is known to have a dubious distinction of being home to the largest child labor force in the world. Almost 30 percent of the world’s working children live here. So although, India is an IT giant and the world’s second-fastest growing economy millions of children suffer from exploitation. In fact, child labor is known to be a dagger through India’s soul.

Often termed as ‘Rajus’, many of these underprivileged children are below the age of 14 years, some at the age of even 4 or 5 who can be seen toiling for long hours so as to get a square meal to prevent and keep their body and soul from parting company. There is no ‘single’ measure that can end this deep-rooted social evil that is intertwined with many other problems such as poverty, illiteracy, etc.
Many measures are being taken by NGO’s across the world to end this social evil. In fact, the youth across the world are known for speaking out against child labor and taking action to protect those children who are in danger.
