My life revolves around and is heavily influenced by music. It brings me joy, sadness, comfort, or rage. I define moments in my life through association of songs. This week, Spotify released their 2019 Wrapped playlists. To reflect on this year, here are a few defining songs:

•Wonderwall by Oasis: This is my second top played song of the year. Why? Because Manchester City. They won the Premier League trophy this year but this song means more this year than just that. Every Man City game, I watch the game with the local Milwaukee supporters club at the Highbury Pub. It’s one of my favorite times of the week because I drink a Guinness and root on my favorite team with a pub full of wonderful fans. …

My birthday is May 30th. I used to never tell people my birthday because I didn’t think anyone cared. However, when my birthday rolled around, I would become depressed that no one told me happy birthday. My thoughts spiraled into blaming myself because I never told anyone, so how would they know? After crying myself to sleep for many years, I decided that I was making this a bigger problem than necessary. I started telling people when my birthday was if they asked and things gradually got better. But this year was hard.

I recently moved to a new city, which meant new work, new surroundings, and new people. At first I was excited about the opportunity, but I underestimated the impact the change would have on my emotional state. This year, for my 21st, I had major anxiety leading to my birthday. I was only one week into my new job in my new city so no one knew it was actually gonna be my birthday. I felt it wasn’t fair to tell them anyway because I didn’t want them to feel pressured to do something with just meeting me. The people I actually wanted to spend it with were my friends from college, who are 1,030 miles away. …

Another year at Marquette has quickly passed. This semester has been one of the hardest but most rewarding of my college career. While I only took 15 credits, which is the least I have taken while at Marquette, I started taking graduate courses for my accelerated master’s degree program. These courses challenged all of my skills and previous ways of thinking. Looking from the other side, I am proud to say that I survived and excelled.

Myself, my Professor, and fellow MU Graduate at the Conference

In my Cultural Identity in the Media and Religion masters course, my professor encouraged me to enter a research paper to the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies Conference on Forced Migrants and Human Flourishing. I wanted to connect the topic of the conference to an interest I was passionate about. So I ended up entering Diversity Inclusion In Football: Ethnic Identities Represented In Media With Success Of Premier League. The paper looked at how forced migrants better settled into their communities that had high England Premier League viewings. The research was accepted into the conference and I was fortunate enough to travel to Green Bay to present my findings. A few weeks following, Marquette’s College of Communication held a scholarship week. I submitted the paper along with a poster about my research. To my amazement, my paper was awarded the Top Graduate Paper. …

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to visit my mentor, Bob, in Nashville. After months of only talking on the phone, I was able to meet and shadow him. It was such an enlightening experience as I begin to make life changing career decisions.

With a 3 a.m. wake up call in Milwaukee, I made it to Nashville at the break of dawn. My first mission before meeting up with Bob was to find coffee and a donut. Fortunately, near my hotel was Nashville’s very-own hipster hotspot: Frothy Monkey. After grabbing a large cup of coffee, a few doors down happened to be god’s greatest creation: Rise Biscuits & Donuts. …

Baking is one of my favorite things to do. I enjoy the hands-on work and creative process. It allows me to destress and solely think about creating yummy food. This past weekend I made a very special cookie. These cookies have been one of the best creations I ever baked. I will say though, I followed this recipe from a Tasty video about Jenn Malouf’s Stuffed Cookies online store. I followed three of the variations, creating the cookie butter, nutella, and peanut butter flavors.

My baking process had to consist over two days because I had a tight schedule. I made two batches of dough then allowed it to chill overnight. The following day, I let the dough warm to room temperature so it would be easier to work with. I began by forming the dough into cups or bowls shapes, then added the filling. However, after making the first few, I found it difficult to close the cookies as they did in the video (maybe I was putting in too much filling, but whatever). So contrary to the video, I took another piece of dough and created a lid. I found this method didn’t create any openings for the filling to escape. Following the closure of the ball, I decorated with the potato chips, pretzels, milk chocolate, white chocolate, Oreo’s, and sprinkles. …

The time has finally come. The biggest event of the year. The Christmas of Professional Wrestling. WRESTLEMANIA. Here are my predications for the event…

Women’s Battle Royal- Lacy Evans: The only women that have any hype going into this match are Sonya, Mandy, and Asuka but I think they will eliminate each other and a feud between them will happen after Mania. If WWE is going to do anything with Evans other than her random interruptions, this is her time.

Cruiserweight ChampionshipBuddy Murphy (c) vs. Tony Nese: Buddy is too strong of a champion for Nese to take the title but it will be an interesting match for sure! …

Almost two years ago, I fell into a deep hole that is the world of professional wrestling.

October 22, 2017. I was hanging out at a friends apartment and the WWE pay-per-view TLC was on the TV. My friend Dan was a fan so because there was nothing better to do, I watched along. It was the weirdest thing I had ever seen and little did I know that the strange man in demon body paint, Finn Balor, would soon become my favorite.

From then on, I would find myself scrolling through channels and land on Monday Night Raw or Smackdown Live. I was so infatuated by the presentation. From the clothing, to the characters, to the physical endurance that these athletes put themselves through every single week. I was amazed. I saw my love of sports and theater being combined and I became obsessed. I have learned that the wrestling community is so passionate about the sport that if you meet anyone who is a fan, you can talk and debate for hours about any wrestler in any promotion. …

As an introvert, seeing live music by myself is one of my favorite things to do. You’d think going to concerts is a social activity that involves many friends and strangers. But for me, it’s the opposite. No one knows you, you can fully live in the moment, and honestly, you never talk to the people you’re with while the artist is playing anyway.

A major advantage of going to concerts alone is that there are ZERO expectations you have to uphold. You aren’t expected to talk or dance with the people you’re with. You can dance like no one’s watching because… no one cares and to me, that is freedom. You can move amongst the crowd wherever you want and not have to think about where your friends are or if they can see. By not caring what those around think, my confidence goes up. I have fun for myself. I dance. I sing. …

I’ve never been a huge award shows fan but I can’t deny a damn good movie. This season I’ve seen most of the films nominated. My absolute favorite was BlacKkKlansman. It had all of the story themes I love in a film: humor, action, and justice! The film was a classic Spike Lee edit and score, which only blew it out of the water for me. I’m obsessed with Spike Lee and this film just solidified that. With that, my least liked was ironically The Favourite. …

Next stop on the road to WrestleMania? Houston, Texas for Elimination Chamber! Here are my predictions for the match-ups:

Cruiserweight Championship: Buddy Murphy (c) vs. Akira Tozawa- Murphy will be defending his title once again in the pre-show unfortunately. These two talented superstars will display killer athleticism but Murphy will carry his title reign all the way to WrestleMania.

Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin- Who the heck knows why this match is even happening? No one likes Corbin except Vince.. …
