There would be no issue in embedding JavaScript in a string. Be aware that REL is just the surface, and a JavaScript solution is just as easy to implement on top of our engine. The current structured JSON syntax is useful for now because (1) It limits the functionality to a predefined set of macros whose reach we have control over (2) it makes it a lot easier to create a drag-and-drop solution for API aggregation and manipulation, which is our next step. This is as close to Greenspun’s tenth rule as was Yahoo Pipes, or is IFTT.
