The write time

Of all the fantasies taking your own time off to a village to live and write has probably dominated all fledgeling writers at one point or another. Like all unachievable things like the correct arrangement on the table or on your desktop. The non hungover feeling in the morning. The bizarre moment snatched in between when you wrote something on the toilet doesn’t count.

Toni Morison makes a big deal of waking up early morning and writing. Sylvia Plath too perhaps makes some comments on how to put the kids aside. And then there is probably a Charles Bukowski type writer who writes in bars late at night in between flirting with women. J. K. Rowling probably did the same without the flirting. Everyone comes up with a special key. But the point is perhaps imagining that the world wants to and is willing to listen. Those are not ingredients found in the time of day or where you are.

That, is simply a trick of narcissism. Like standing in front of the mirror just the right way before you leave home so you believe it.
