Yes, you can pair wine with The Bachelor and be proud of it.

I don’t know Nick but hope he finds love.

Thank you to NYMag for having a cutout of Nick online

My hope for you, like for Nick, is to find love … as in a new wine varietal that you can enjoy with the rest of #BachelorNation.

I’ve never seen an episode of the Bachelor but apparently people love to drink wine while watching. I’m a wine guy and therefore I commit to putting my best effort forward with the wine pairings.

Over the next 12-ish episodes I’ll pair a wine the Sunday PRIOR to each Monday episode. Just in time to make a weekend wine run.

Pairing episode 1 with a Riesling from Mosel or Alsace.

Nick is looking for a fresh start and this wine is literally famous for clean, slate flavors.

Check out those steep slopes

Reason 1: There is no crisper, fresher, or fruitier wine than a dry Riesling. It’s the perfect first date.

A 90 day love & wine journey can be daunting so it’s best to start with an easy, welcoming wine.

If you’ve watched SOMM or SOMM 2: Into the Bottle or heard your friends reference an odd tennis ball while drinking wine, then you might be familiar with the intense scrutiny that takes places during wine tastings. Many pros start their days by warming up with a splash of Riesling to wake up the palate, and we too should use that wisdom.

Thank you Wine Folly for your great wine content

You may have strong opinions on Rieslings (just like I have my opinions on this RIDICULOUS show) but give it a try. You are looking for a dry Riesling not sweet. You are looking for the dry wine that will walk up to you and just say ‘nice to meet you’ vs the sweet wine that shows up in a cupcake.

Thank you to my wife for telling me about this

Reason 2: Nikki Michaels over at The Juice said it best “Allow us to let you in on a little secret: Riesling is a bit of a player”

Could this also describe our Bachelor!?!? I honestly have no idea but this quote was just too good not to use.

Most sommeliers have a general affection for Riesling and have seen it grow in popularity partially because it pairs with everything. From spicy to sweet, a dry Riesling could be your best help when stomaching 25 on-air introductions.

There will be much more to discover over the next 3 long months together. Cheers and happy Bachelor-ing.
