All we are is awareness itself

‘Emulsified onto the backdrop of nothing, awareness reveals the cinematography of the essential you’. - J. Herbert

If you accept everything as it is, you free yourself from the suffering of thoughts and begin the journey into the essence of your true self. When we become engrossed in our thoughts, we become less aware of external surroundings. Like when you’re driving a car and suddenly find yourself in the driveway not remembering how you got there.

The ability to think is a gift, but when thinking becomes dominant we can find ourselves trapped in these thought patterns which can be hard to escape from. When you see people make the same mistakes over and over again their thinking is habitual and they become victims of their own thoughts.

A number of things can break the pattern of habitual thinking:

  • When shock occurs it stops our thoughts and gets us back to the natural state of total awareness.
  • Intuition is awareness that doesn’t function on the level of the mind, so the more you follow your intuition, the more aware you become.
  • When you take a step back and become the observer of your life, you find yourself viewing each moment as they come.
  • The essence of who we are is in the emptiness. When everything is taken away from you, what do you have left?

Sensory perception is awareness, while thinking a thought is in your mind. Nothing else matters but the present moment, all the emotional turmoil and racing thoughts disappear and you’ll find yourself fully immersed in the current state. Your life begins to transform as you appreciate the beauty in all things surrounding you.

We like to label and identify things, even ourselves. We think a combination of thoughts, slap a name on it and call it me. Which takes us away from the natural state of total awareness. When you’re a baby you have no idea of the labels and identities we have created, therefor your focus is always in the present. You have no idea where your body starts or where it ends, and all your left with is awareness.

So maybe all life is, is awareness itself. Maybe the experience we call life is awareness having fun. In a world full of thoughts and distraction, what would happen if we stripped everything back and just became totally aware of the present moment? No thoughts, no distraction, just be...
