I always use reusable bags. I have about 100 of them.
Primarily because I buy groceries enroute from somewhere other than home.
I used single use plastic bags as garbage bags before. But now I have to buy plastic garbage bags. It’s not clear how substituting one single use plastic bag for one that I used twice before is benefiting anything.
I changed to reusable bags because they were easier to carry when walking the 1000 meters from the supermarket to my apartment.
I live in Chile where now they will not give you more than 2 single use bags even if you wanted to pay for them.
I also reuse the plastic bags from the vegetable/fruit section rather than purchased resealable bags.
Here most people do. The resealable bag shelf might have 20 boxes in 2 sizes of Ziplock bags. Nobody buys them. They don’t stock them.
I have bought resealable plastic bags and my girlfriend washes them after every use.
Obviously people need plastic bags for a multitude of reasons.
Perhaps regulations should look at the use of all types of plastic bags.
How about buying all groceries for delivery only. They come in plastic garbage containers (under counter size). When they are delivered, they take back your previous one full of garbage. We wouldn’t need a separate waste management service.
I grew up when plastic was not commonly used.
Groceries came in brown paper bags and waxed paper was used instead of plastic wrap. You kept all the jars that food came in and reused them as resealable containers.
In theory you could totally eliminate plastic bags.
