Manifesto

In 2024, amidst the social, environmental, and political challenges our world faces, technology must not perpetuate the biases and mistakes of the past.

As designers and technologists, we are responsible for the people who use the experiences we craft. We must consider the impacts of our work on the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of our users. We must also ponder about the broader societal implications of our creations.

It’s important to recognize that the way we design can influence behavior. We will strive to create experiences that encourage positivity and discourage negativity. We will consider the potential unintended consequences of our work and actively work to mitigate them.

We believe that crafting responsible experiences begins with understanding our users and the context in which they will engage with our work. We will take the time to listen, be present, experiment and co-create, to ensure that our experiences are ethical, sustainable, and considerate of diversity.

We understand that responsibility is an ongoing process and we will continuously seek feedback and educate ourselves to improve.

How do we achieve all this? By establishing experience standards across 5 areas:

Trust and Transparency

Users are increasingly aware that their information and digital footprint can be used against them. By incorporating our trust and transparency layer into digital products, we can establish and demonstrate a commitment to the user’s privacy and security.

We pledge to protect user data with the highest standards of security.

Inclusive Design

Underrepresentation and exclusion are present in all aspects of our lives.

By embracing systems’ diversity and compound identities, we can move forward while enriching the world with equal opportunities to participate and contribute.

We commit to designing inclusively and ensuring every voice is heard and represented.

Community Impact

Technology can connect us in amazing ways while disrupting offline communities and local businesses.

Digital products can influence individual and collective behaviors, and we must actively aim for a positive impact.

We promise to create technology that supports and uplifts positive community awareness.

Digital Well-Being

Technology is an intrinsic part of our daily lives and ourselves. That symbiosis can distract us from our core beliefs and goals.

We must look at products and services striving for an intentional relationship with technology.

We are dedicated to fostering mindful interactions with technology that enhance, not hinder, our lives.

Sustainable Design

Digital solutions aren’t immaterial, and we can’t ignore their impact on the planet.

Technological answers must balance human needs without compromising ecological limits and our future.

We will consider how our work impacts the environment and use sustainable design methodologies to act accordingly.

We commit to the principles outlined in this manifesto and will hold ourselves accountable to them in the design and creation of all our experiences.

Take part.

Introduction

In a world that moves at the speed of technology, where urgency and acceleration are the norms, we chose to slow down, reexamine, and engage deeply with the process of creation.

Crafting embodies our humane approach and our intent. It signifies a commitment to revisiting and refining our practices, ensuring they are not only innovative but also responsible and altruistic.

Crafting means taking the time to understand the nuanced needs of our users, to experiment and iterate, and to build solutions that resonate on a human level. It’s about the importance of quality over speed, depth over breadth, and empathy over efficiency. This approach not only shapes the experiences we create but also defines who we are as a company — dedicated, thoughtful, and committed to making a positive impact on the world.

Crafting Responsible Experiences is about working hand-to-hand to develop digital products, services and designs that are conscious, and, most importantly, contribute positively to the world. Experiences capable of including and empowering designers and end-users to make decisions about themselves and others, tech as an enabler for good change.

Crafting responsible experiences, the way we see it integrates five pivotal pillars: Trust & Transparency, Inclusive Design, Community Impact, Digital Well-being, and Sustainable Design. Each one of these represents and signifies the way we transform to ensure our solutions are conscient, aggregative and representative. While the world may not always be on this path, we are committed to leading the way to try, fostering awareness, and driving change toward a more ethical and inclusive digital future.
