To innovate or not to innovate
If you’re still riding a buggy you don’t need to invent a faster way to travel, you just need to go buy a car. A lot of businesses feel that they have to reinvent the wheel to “disrupt” the marketplace and be “innovative.” The unsexy truth is that most companies just aren’t in a position to be “innovation” leaders, in fact, they really need to focus on just getting up to speed.
Not a day goes by without someone telling me about their new app which is something like: “It’s like Facebook and Instagram but for nerds.” That’s great and good for you for being ambitious but why not just start a Facebook group or an Instagram page dedicated to delivering the type of content you want to see.
If you’re trying to set-up an online business you don’t have to invent e-commerce, just focus on creating something that people want to buy and then leverage the behemoth e-commerce platforms already out there.
In reality, innovation may be not inventing the car, but rather using a car in a way that’s never been done before. All of this is to say focus on finding and solving problems that don’t have answers and then you don’t have to innovate you just have to solve a problem that no one’s solved yet.
