This article explains the hidden meanings of my name, logo and colors. I had to talk about it because of the many related synchronicities.
I didn’t thought about these details when making those decisions. I realized that afterward and was speechless, well rather amused, when seeing all these coincidences, synchronicities!

WODY
/ ˈwō-dē / • noun
Wody is like a homie, a buddy, a fellow.
Homie: a member of one’s gang.
Buddy: a companion, partner.
Fellow: a comrade, equal in rank.
That’s exactly the kind of relationship I want to have with the CrossFit community. I want to accompany, collaborate, serve, and empower → athletes, coaches, box owners, and companies.
👊
A fist bump is a gesture of greeting or affirmation in which two people lightly tap each other’s clenched fist.
When two people fist bump, it is:
› a friendly congratulation
› a symbol of respect
› a sign of companionship
It symbolizes the camaraderie that is one of the pillars of CrossFit. And it’s front facing because I’m giving it to you.
So remember: 👊 fist bump all your fellow CrossFitters at the end of each class 👉 This is the way!
Ubuntu
For the wordmark, I choose the Ubuntu typeface because of the Ubuntu philosophy; one of my core values.
It’s a traditional African concept meaning “humanity* towards others” (* compassionate, sympathetic, or generous behavior or disposition) or “I am because we are”. It embodies the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity.
Colors
“Simpsons yellow” was the obvious skin tone choice when starting with the 👊 emoji; as it symbolizes neutrality, inclusivity, and no race distinctions.
Red because it radiates a strong and powerful energy; it’s associated with passion, sport, and speed; and it symbolyzes life, health, vigor, courage, and love. In CrossFit, it’s often associated with coaches and trainers. And it was the main color of their first real branding; with black. By chance it goes well with yellow.
Black for its elegance, prestige, strongness, and neutrality.
These are the colors of the flag of Belgium 🇧🇪
As it’s my country of origin, I strongly associate Belgium with its motto: Unity Makes Strength; which is one of my core values.
And because of my cultural background, there’s also a silly reason… pour la belgitude, une fois! Hein? Non peut-être! Oufti, quel klet ce peï 🙄
