A Toast to 2018
My favorite holiday is New years
I can’t really say why, but it’s the one holiday that I’m always excited for. Every year is memorable, from celebrating new years with a mad Shaneza on 6th street, or jumping over fires with Josh in Ecuador.
I love those nights.
One of the things I like to do every year is give a toast.
Instead of a New Year’s Eve resolution I pick an attribute, one I want to strengthen that year, and in a toast, I challenge my friends to do the same.
The first time I did it was 2012, I made a toast declaring it the year of LOVE.
I knew I needed to get bitterness out of my heart, and I wanted to practice being more of a loving person to the people around me. I wanted to love my family more, strengthen my love in God, and learn to love myself as much as i acted like I already did. The entire year was a dedication to be more open to love.
That was the year I fell in love with Shaneza.
Thus the tradition started.
Going into 2015, I knew the year ahead was going to be a tough one. I was a senior in college, my last semester was 24 credit hours, my friend group was going through a falling out, and I was going to become an officer and starting my career by the end of the year.
I knew I needed it to be the year of Strength.
Strength in mind, strength in God, strength in my relationship with my new wife.
It was a long year, but being reminded that it was a year of strength helped me to push through. The year would be over soon, and I would be on my next adventure.
I usually get to do the toast with friends and family in person, but this year we are spread around the world.
So here’s a toast to 2018 the year of RELATIONSHIPS.
This year, lets focus on relationships, in three ways:
- Make new relationships, ones that start now and last for 20 years.
- Cherish, and strengthen current relationships, your relationship with God, relationship with your loved one, your relationships with your closest friends.
- Rekindle old relationships, don’t be scared to talk to people you were close to before, and invite them in again.
Build on these relationships, and understand their importance on your life. I love yall.
A toast to 2018!
