Lovely Maine… Our Week in Acadia

My husband and I had talked about visiting Maine for years. Last week, at the end of my maternity leave we did it…. it was glorious! We visited lighthouses,

The Forest Gump Lighthouse!

Luxuriated in lobster,

Loster Roll our first night in Maine

and trekked through some beautiful (easy) trails with our girls.

One of the unexpected delights of our vacation had nothing to do with the beauty of our surroundings, but with the simplicity of our accommodations.

In order to offset our lobster dinners/lunches, I found a lovely lodging option in Acadia Cottages in Southwest Harbor on the ‘Quiet Side’ of Mount Desert Island with kitchenette facilities.

To our delight, our hosts (Tom & Vickie) were lovely, at the ready with hiking maps, books, and quarters for laundry. Their cottages, while walking distance from downtown Southwest Harbor, were also tucked back in some trees with Adirondack chairs and and a fire pit… and (slow) Wifi, but to make up for the Wifi…

Each cottage had a TV and VHS player. You read that right… a VHS player and the office had scores of movies to borrow at leisure. So after lovely days of exploring Acadia National Park we came ‘home’ to old fashioned movie nights.

It was a lovely way to spend my last week enjoying the new shape of our family before returning to work.

Fittingly, Back to the Future, was our farewell movie night… now it’s back to work for me…

Until next time Acadia…
