I read mostly non-fiction & don’t watch TV, but have read about ‘reality’ content. Your point about the writers’ strike is credible. On the blurred distinction between fiction & reality, notoriety & political power you are most astute.

I visited the US in 1997 & was startled to learn that the term ‘liberal’ is pejorative there. Elsewhere its meaning is close to tolerant, non-judgemental, even anti-authoritarian… & considered a good thing. Liberal impulses validate the social benefits you cite, to which access is apparently becoming more difficult or impossible for US citizens.

It is painful to watch this once most creative & admired polity degenerating toward fascism. It will hurt everyone.

You’re right: it’s cruel, vulgar, indecent & empty.
