Letter to My Daughter

Dear Ariel, welcome to the world! Your mother and I cannot be more blessed today to have you join our lives. And we thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of your amazing experience of time and space.

As you cuddle in your mother’s arms crying out loud declaring your arrival, I sit by you speechless at what it means for a father to watch and hear his daughter cry. Yes, it is a celebratory moment, yet the sense of happiness and helplessness mingle in an awkward catharsis.

Ariel, your life will be wholesome. Not because as parents we can give you everything you’d ever want, but because we cherish and celebrate the moments we earned and worked for, no matter how small they may seem.

Ariel, your future and your journey in time will be fascinating. You’ll experience what the world has to offer you in ways that we can’t imagine today. Just look at the possibilities that get unlocked each day. And as parents, we hope you too will contribute to that process and enable those around you.

And my daughter Ariel, you will be beautiful. The type of beauty that outshines what’s visible. The beauty that permeates through people’s hearts by being loved for your doings, loved for your love for those in need, and love for mankind.

Always remember, your mother and I will love you endlessly. We will be there to cheer you. We will be there to help you get back up. But in the end, it is up to you to be Ariel Yujin Chung.

Welcome to the world my daughter. Welcome to our family.

Love Mom and Dad
