RE: criticism that basic income (in the amount of $1K, let’s say) would dissuade people from working, it’s hard to imagine any basic income actually being high enough to prevent someone from working. Where could someone survive on $1K a month? In cities, $1K wouldn’t even cover rent, let alone all basic living expenses. It’d be more helpful to save people from going under when unexpected expenses come up like car damage or health costs, etc. which is no small help. Those kinds of expenses can send a person into a downward spiral financially.
