Have you ever talked about your dream to your friends? Or family? Have they ever laughed at you or discouraged you from pursue it? Did some of them went as far as telling you are being selfish for wanting more?

Those people do not understand the journey you are in and it is okay. People around you will try to bring you to their level so they are comfortable around you. Most of the time, those people are either jealous because they did not start their journey or because they are afraid of change. But if you would ask them straight forward “why is it selfish to want more” they would not even be able to tell you.

What is selfish?

We should establish what is selfish first before debunking the idea. Selfish is to think only about yourself and to not care about the others. It is to act towards the achievement of your own goal by discarding any other people around you. A selfish person will seek to put other people down so they can get themselves up. But…

Stepping stones to wanting more

Why you are not selfish

See, wanting more of life does not mean other will suffer because of your desire. Wanting more will most of the time result in a better life for your surrounding as well. Let’s say you want to become a millionaire and you become one. You will then be able to help your family, friends and organisations that you have at heart. You will be in a better position to help people then than you would now.

Wanting more in life is also not only about money. It can be for some but it does not have to be for you. Wanting more in life is an idea where you seek to achieve a bigger goal, to obtain a situation you always wanted. Wanting more is being healthy, is empowering other people. Wether your goal is to start you own business, to become healthier, to become rich or to simply be happy, wanting more in life is going to have an impact all around you.

How is it going to impact my surroundings?

Wanting more in life will bring motivation in other people to pursue their dream too. It will result in a wave of positiveness all around you and affect positively the life of those who are dear to you. It will created because others will be inspired by the way you changed and how happier you are. They will probably want to start by doing something similar to you but they will find eventually what really drives them.

Therefore…

You actually should want more in order to help them. I could go as far as saying it is selfish to not want more and to stay in your comfort zone. Because then, you won’t help them as much as you could. So I encourage anyone to pursue the idea and philosophy of wanting more. To embrace it every day and to continue to work towards that ultimate goal. Don’t get me wrong, I am not the first to tell you that being selfish regarding money or wanting more is what you should be, Grant Cardone said it first.
