From anorexia to mental fitness coaching — using your experience to give back
After years of battling anorexia as a teenager, Jack Jacobs turned things around and ended up using his own grit, determination and resilience to make it in business. Now he’s putting his experiences to use as a mental fitness coach, helping people of all ages and backgrounds to discover more about themselves and unleash their full potential. Pretty inspiring stuff.
If that weren’t enough, Jack also donates a percentage of his earnings to YoungMinds through Work For Good, our business-charity donation platform — helping to provide mental health support for the next generation of teenagers who need it.
We caught up with Jack to find out a little more about his business, his background, and why he’s made giving back such a key part of his work.
Tell us a bit about your business?
I’m a mental fitness coach based in London, UK. I coach individuals of all ages and backgrounds to maintain and improve their mental fitness, by providing a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for my clients to explore, discover and learn more about themselves. Ultimately, I facilitate meaningful conversations to guide, support and empower my clients to unleash their full potential.
I also deliver inspirational speeches and mental fitness workshops at schools, colleges, universities and organisations.
Why do you feel it’s important to give back through your business?
It’s important to give back because if we all gave back a small amount, the world would be a different place. It’s not about my impact as an individual, it’s about our collective efforts.
How does your business give through Work for Good?
I donate a proportion of my earnings to Young Minds, a mental health charity for young people.
How did you decide which charity to donate to?
The best part of my teenage years were spent suffering and recovering from anorexia. I was at anorexia’s deaths door and I wouldn’t be alive right now if I didn’t speak up, have help and support, and most importantly, take responsibility of my mind. YoungMinds is a fantastic charity supporting young people’s mental health and this is a cause that is very close to my heart.
What impact have you seen on your business since embedding giving into your business?
My prospective and current clients are impressed and feel great, because they feel like they are giving back too! It’s a really great thing to be able to tell your current and prospective clients, plus, it will attract more business so you can give back even more!
What advice would you give to a business who is thinking about giving back?
