The subject of discipline is a crucial one. It is the ability to do what you need to do, when you need to do it, whether you feel like doing it or not. It is practically impossible to be successful without imbibing the quality of discipline.

Take a roll call of the most successful people in the world today, and you will find that they all have one thing in common — Discipline. A disciplined person is one who gets things done regardless of how they feel.

Individuals and organisations need to be disciplined. When you are disciplined you will be able to follow through on the things you need to do and this ends up creating more opportunities for you. Other advantages of being disciplined are;

· Enhances your performance: When you are able to adhere to a routine of getting things done, you are ultimately able to achieve more.

· Enables you to develop a great work ethic: As you strive to be more disciplined, you’ll discover that you have developed a great work ethic over time, and this will also help you to get more out of your time.

Helps you focus on the tasks or goals you intend to achieve: Discipline breeds focus. A disciplined individual is undistracted by inanities as they are able to fix their attention on the particular task at hand.

Helps you command respect: Very few things breed respect like a culture of discipline. As a startup owner, your employees accord you respect not just because you are their boss, but because they can see how disciplined you are and admire your work ethic. They are also more likely to feed off your lifestyle of discipline and emulate it. Clients will also respect and trust you to deliver on their work on time.

Allows you to be stress free: Discipline means that you have a scheduled time for doing everything. Your day is carefully planned and you are able to stay stress free because you have allotted sufficient time to achieve your goals.

Keeps you alert: A culture of discipline means that you are constantly on your toes. Therefore, urgent matters and exigencies don’t catch you unawares because you are likely to have factored them into your routine.

All round wellbeing: Being disciplined may sound like too much stress, but at the end of the day, you are healthier and happier because you have all your bases covered and are less likely to be stressed.

As an entrepreneur or professional of any kind, you MUST be disciplined. Without mincing words, discipline in business and life in general is the key to success.
