How to Crack Every Interview Ever (Part 1)
An interview may not be as precise as a science but you can still crack every interview you face. It boils down to knowing your strengths and working on your weaknesses. If you know approach each interview with a systematic approach like this, you’re sure to make it through all of them.
In short, know your calibre. I obviously do not suggest applying for a job you are over- or underqualified. You are the best judge of your own qualifications and experience. If you feel that you fit the job profile and that you would be a productive addition to the team, only then you should apply for a position. There’s no point in wasting your time for a job which you know you will not land or for one that wastes your potential. The best decision you can make for your career is to be smart when you choose the jobs you apply for.
Do a SWOT analysis
Once you have set your sights on a particular job, it’s time to analyze yourself. SWOT stands for Strength Weakness Opportunities and Threats. Generally utilized to business ideas, you can do a SWOT analysis on yourself to assess your preparedness. List down your strengths and accomplishments. How can these strengths help the company in the post that you are applying for? Where are the possible areas of weakness that your employers may ask you about? How can you manage them to the best of your ability? How can you create opportunities and how do you treat them when you get them? What are the threats to your application? What reason can they think of to not select you and what can you do to change their mind if needed? If you systematically can understand yourself, then you have won half the battle. The rest is just telling your prospective employer about it.
The employers are looking for a reliable candidate. Someone who can function efficiently but also under not-so ideal conditions which can crop up anytime. They would rather not hire a nervous employee who can possibly crack under similar stress on the job. If you are sure of yourself, you should be confident. You will do well if you tell yourself that. However, don’t take it to the other extreme. Nobody likes a cocky and arrogant, much less employers. If you are going to be overconfident and be a problem to your colleagues because of your attitude, you can kiss the job goodbye. Be Goldilocks. Calm but respectful.
