NASA tracks mysterious object exiting the Milky Way
A team of citizen scientists collaborating with NASA’s Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 project has identified a mysterious object known as CWISE J124909.08+362116.0, which is hurtling out of the Milky Way at approximately 1 million miles per hour. Detected using data from NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) mission, this object poses a unique classification challenge due to its low mass and metallicity, indicating it may be one of the oldest entities in our galaxy. This finding highlights the significance of ongoing astronomical research.
