Some reflections on gender discussions.

Lately I have been pondering on the arising amount of discussions on gender equality. Equal rights and possibilities for both female and male. So far so good.

What I often lack in those discussions is the questioning of the fact that our society and the very core of our culture is formed and build on a masculine perspective. Take for instance the structure of companies (exception to “teal” organised structures). Foundation of our world religions (they are more or less all from a male perspective). Just notice what qualities we value in a professional human being (competition, decisiveness, risk taking etc.).

As kids we quickly learn what skills are valued and which are not. We become more what we are expected to be rather than what we truly are. As a woman you want to fit in and get a good job as much as your male class mates, so you do your very best, often unconscious, to fit into the role model of a good citizen (as a male ideal).

What has happened is that very few women are in their full feminine essence, instead they have developed more of their masculine part. This is, for the majority of women, not their natural way of being. This creates stress, unhappiness and a feeling of not living from one’ s best potential.

The situation of inequality between men and women is well known, but the solution of the problem is not always obvious. Nowadays there are much more focus on similarities between men and women than on the differences. We should go beyond our current believes that big difference between gender will create more inequality. Instead we should embrace the differences and value them equal.

Let us draw a line that represent the balance between the female — male aspect in today´s western society. (This is very roughly done and unscientific, but just to stress the point.) Our society as a whole tent to be to a large degree masculine. Few women are in their feminine essence. Paradoxically this lead to that men are neither in their full essence of masculinity, simply because the unbalance between the female and male energies would be too big. (Everything in nature aims to be in balance, when tension get too big in a system, it simply collapse. Think of a scale, if everything is on one side the balance tips over, but you can add a lot of weight and still have balance if the weight is equally distributed on both sides.) Indeed one could argue that we are close to the tip considering how people in general feel. Depression and stress is a huge problem in our society. Another consequence is that the polarity between women and men is quite small.

Women must be supported by the society to develop their fully female essence. (Of course all people are unique some have more female essence and some have less but all are equally important. And as a fact both men and women have masculine and feminine essence. The important point here is that every human being should be able to develop himself/herself according to his/hers true nature, true essence. )

As we get more feminine essence in our world we will also see that more men will be more masculine simply because we are going back to a balanced society.

The below draft should have red and blue in between the dots as well, but just to give you an idea of where we are heading. We are heading towards to a balanced society, a society where we value the feminine aspect as much as the masculine. Towards to an increased polarity between men and women, where we together create fullness. Towards to a happy, playful and healthy society.
