Tim Ferriss: Tools of Titans Summary: PART 1
Immediately I texted my buddy Robin to ensue in a night of reading and reviewing so we could deliver it asap and fresh for you. Enjoy.
I’ll let him explain the book in his own words: “this book, like my others, is a compendium of recipes for high performance that I gathered for my own use.” He basically went for the low-hanging fruit with immediate returns. Awesome.
Apparently the dude even went to Paris for one month to review all the lessons he had learned from nearly 200 world-class performers he interviewed for The Tim Ferriss Show (which recently passed 100,000,000 downloads!!). As is said in the book, the world is a goldmine, and you can dig the answers to almost anything out off people’s heads who have actual real-life experience going where you want to be. This book lets you do that.
The book itself is divided in 3 main parts: the healthy, the wealthy and the wise which all have their own extra added “non-profile” bonus pages written by the man himself (for example a slow-carb diet cheatsheet).
The goal with this summary was to pick out key take-aways; the most generally applicable and valuable stuff of the interview, added with our favorite quotes and ‘Questions to ask yourself’. Also we added what we considered the two most valuable pages at the bottom.
As every person is different, ideally I’d advise you to just buy the book yourself and “skip liberally” to find the black sheep that fits your unique idosyncrasies. Enjoy.

3,7/5. It’s a nice book for people who don’t like to read a lot of other books. Like Tim said: this book is a buffet you can choose from…
The fact that it’s 674 pages big and the way it’s structured makes it so that it’s a less nice ‘read’, however, that’s also why he advises to skip liberally. So the book gives you a lot of the hows but from what I’ve read so far not a lot of why’s, and this means that it lacks a bit of depth. But that’s not what the book was meant for, it just gives you the Tools of Titans. Generally I liked his other books better but that’s probably because I’m so well traversed in the self-development world. Perhaps reading all the 674 pages might be a bit too much for you so “skip liberally” and find the people/parts that interest you.

The Healthy: this part is mainly world-famous coaches or docs talking about their ideal diets (also top supplements) and neat little tricks, but also about key-excercises for strength and mobility.
- Coach Sommers (former U.S. National Gymnastics team coach) on mobility: “When in doubt, work on the deficiencies you’re most embarrased by. To assess your biggest weaknesses, start by finding a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) near you. 3 movements everyone should practice: J-curl, Shoulder Extension and Thoracic bridge. If you commit to a long-term goal and not to a series of smaller intermediate goals, then only one decision needs to be made and adhered to.
- Gabby Reece (best known for her success in volleybal): if the woman can refrain from trying to change or mother her partner, she has a greater opportunity of putting herself in a position where the guy will respect her.
- Psychedelics: Tim ferriss’ says that 90% of the latent anger and resentment he’d had for more then 25 years was eradicated after 48 hours of “medicine work”. The word Psychedelic (Greek for “mind-revealing”) is generally used to refer to compounds that can reliably separate you from your ego and occasion mystical or transcedental experiences. Marijuana, ketamine, and MDMA have compelling medical applications, but Fadiman doesn’t consider them psychdedelics, because you don’t leave your idenitty beheidn. The noun “entheogen,” meaning “egenerating the divine within,” has become a popular alternative to the term “psychedelic”. Psychedelics usually give what you need, not what you want. I can confirm this from my own Ayahuasca experience. A great sitter (during trips) is someone who loves you and trust. Patients who are using opiates are generally trying to numb themselves. They don’t want to think; they don’t want to feel. Ibogaine really forces them to have that discussion. “Look what you’ve done, look where you will end up if you conitinue using.”.. so it’s not really a ‘fun’ experience.
- Flotation tanks: when done consistently over time, is essentially like meditation on steroids, it starts to recalibrate the entire neuroendocrine system. According to Dan, most people get exponentially more benefit from a single 2-hour session than 2 separate 1-hour sessions. Keeping it Simple, Dan suggests you start with 2 to 3 floats inside of 1 month. “I’ve never had anybody come back and say ‘yeah, that didn’t work’”.
