In a previous article we mentioned how DeepSeek compares to OpenAI’s ChatGPT based on conceptual concepts of speed, safety and more.

Now we will put this to the test and show side by side comparisons actually using the tool given five different use cases.

Since I’ve been using ChatGPT for significantly longer, I’m going to use the free version to avoid any biases as ChatGPT “knows” me a bit better.

In this article we will see how they compare in writing.

Writing an Email

Let’s give both platforms a prompt to write me follow-up email after a job interview.

ChatGPT’s Response:

DeepSeek’s Response:

At first glance, both responses are structured similarly and even share a lot of the same phrasing. However, I found DeepSeek’s version to feel more natural in tone and word choice. It flows better, making it seem like something I’d actually send.

Social Media Posts

AI is a great tool to help construct or refine thoughts when it comes to marketing and posting on social media.

LinkedIn

I’m going to ask both platforms to write me a LinkedIn post about the impact of AI in marketing.

ChatGPT’s Response:

DeepSeek’s Response:

Once again, the actual information is the same in both, but I find DeepSeek’s way of writing a bit more natural and closer to human-like.

Tweets

I wonder if Tweets (actually what are they called now? X posts?) will be any different.

Let’s ask them to summarize the latest AI news in an engaging tweet.

ChatGPT’s Response:

DeepSeek’s Response:

DeepSeek takes the lead here. Its response not only mentioned different companies but also touched on a slightly controversial point, opening it up for more conversation.

However if I’m being honest, neither response was particularly entertaining or something I would particularly engage in so you might want to use your own creativity in this one.

Creative Writing

I’m going to see how both tools match up when it comes to creative writing. I’m giving the prompt: write me a creative short story about a princess and a cat.

ChatGPT’s Response:

DeepSeek’s Response:

Oh wow, interestingly enough they both used the name of Elara for the main character without me specifying anything. But they did go in different directions and messages in their stories.

In this case, I found DeepSeek’s version much more engaging and may have stopped reading ChatGPT’s halfway through.

Final Verdict: DeepSeek Wins This Round

But not by much!

Throughout our tests in emails, social media, and creative writing, both AIs provided the same core information. Their responses were structured similarly, meaning you’ll generally get comparable content from either tool.

However, DeepSeek consistently felt a bit more natural in its writing style and word choice, making it the slight winner this time.

That being said, no matter which tool you prefer, always take the time to tweak and edit their responses to fit your needs.
