You might think I’m crazy or lying and that’s okay—everyone’s opinion matters. I’ve been waking up at four o’clock for a while and it’s done amazing things in my life. After being inspired for years by motivated individuals who claimed to have done it, I decided to try for myself.

There’s nothing better than adding more time in your life, of course that time doesn’t mean anything if you spent it doing nothing—you’ll just be sleepier and crankier, but if used wisely you’ll be able to have develope habits you never thought you had time for, like for me personally, I never had time for reading, exercising and making my own breakfast.

It isn’t the easiest thing to do because I’m a heavy sleeper and the sound of my alarm across the room doesn’t make doesn’t make my wife and right next to me, I tend to hit the snooze. I’m a firm believer that technology used correctly can improve our lives, so the first thing I did was jumped into my app market. After hours of research and not waking up again because I stay up too late. I bought three apps that were near the top list:

Kiwake: Breaks your habit of hitting the snooze bar, it would not turn off if you don’t take a picture of something you took the night before—for example my coffee is in the kitchen and once woken up it gives me a couple of seconds to move or it’ll start ringing again—and you know how my wife gets upset.

Focus: It’s a timer for work and study, instead of looking at your phone to look at the time, it’ll ring for a certain hours or minutes that you’ll set it in and give you a five minute break in-between sessions.

Done: Is a todo list that resets every single day. Keep track of everything.

The first thing I’ll do is some type of exercise, it can be running, walking or yoga. Something that’ll wake you up so don’t go back to sleep easly. After that I usually my time to either read or study something, I try to keep work until I start my day, unless it deserves my attention away from me.

What has improve for me is that books and news read faster, picking up new language and cooking food has made me slimmer, with more money in my pockets.

Is this recommended for everybody? No—my wife starts her day later and goes to sleep later than me so it’s perfectly fine. What I’m trying to say is that the extra time spent sleeping can be used for something much more, 4–5 hours of sleep is all you really need. Just the first week is gonna feel really off—you may not think it’s not normal but you’re body will adjust and you’ll feel weird doing anything else.
