Great research, but again, for some people like myself, the issue was never one of gender.

Ghostbusters (original) captured lightning in a bottle with that cast, and it won’t ever be replicated no matter how many configurations of people they want to try it with.

To accept that as a brute fact, and then combine it with the knowledge that they are throwing the continuity away instead of making a sequel in the same world (where the old cast could have cameos as their actual characters passing the torch to a new generation)… That makes for a movie I have no desire to see.

I still say it should have started with Egon dying offscreen in some comedic manner, giving the other three guys the perspective they need to realize they’re too old to keep on busting, so they set out to hire a new squad to train and turn the operation over to. That movie would have been a hit.
