My purest hate about this is when I am in Rainier National Park, 3 miles down a trail, and I can…

Sorry, but that can’t be possible.
Scientifically, I mean.
The loudest motorcycles are around 80 dB, and one can use the Inverse Square Law to calculate how the intensity of sound decreases over distance. An 80 dB motorcycle is only 5.5 dB 1 mile away. That is quieter than the rustle of leaves in a breeze.
At 2 miles, the same motorcycle no longer registers beyond the threshold of human hearing.
And those figures are assuming ideal circumstances as well. Things such as hills, trees, and wind can all have further detrimental effects as well.
Even if it were 100 dB, that means that ¼ mile away it would only be as loud as refrigerator humming!
