California Day 6 – Aquarium and Big Sur

Happy Birthday daughter #1!

Morning and lunch in the aquarium. Afternoon down Highway 1 as far as the bridge closure at Pfeiffer Beach. Evening joined the locals for the farmers market and dinner at a family-run Italian.

Perfect day, really. Aquarium just as good as I remembered. A mixture of stunning visuals, great ‘shows’ and well-presented educational material, all set in a great architectural space. Particularly enjoyed the show with the 25,000 sardines. Really something to be just inches away from something only ever seen on TV. Sea Otters great as well.

Looks like CGI, but is totally real.
They are surprisingly big, but maximum cuteness.

The drive down the Big Sur also lived up to expectations. Stunning vistas, swooping blacktop and a great soundtrack, thanks to the Spotify and the thumping stereo system in the hire car. Able to drive as far as Pfeiffer before we got turned around by the road closures.

Evening meal was at Rosine’s. Great pasta and steak. Too full for dessert but took it to go anyway. Another movie on the big screen in the hotel. Fire pit tempting but it was a little chilly.
