The challenge is finding a methodology for humans to scale their aspirations. We simply don’t have, as yet, the capacity to comprehend how our decisions ramify across time. Looking back at technology development and adoption reveals decisions made myopically because of a lack of visibility beyond the horizon. Without a shared values framework that would limit the unintended excursions along the adoption/modification/use case specific path of technologies becoming ubiquitous, their growth repeatedly generates the litany of problems you highlight. Design starts with intent not an anticipation of consequences, reversing that begins with “do you know what you do does’.
