We all have spotted John Kerry, Robin Williams, Andre Agassi and Angelina Jolie wearing yellow wristbands with the word ‘LIVESTRONG’ inscribed on them. Back in 2004, these wristbands became a must-have styling accessory which had and still has a meaning deeper than wearing it merely as an accessory.

Livestrong wristbands started being manufactured by the Lance Armstrong Foundation, founded by Lance Armstrong who was a professional cyclist and a testicular Cancer survivor. In a bid to raise five million dollars, he set this foundation up. Nike produced the first five million dollars donating one million to the foundation. All the bands were successfully sold, followed by manufacturing and sales of millions more.

The Livestrong wristbands send out a great message to live strongly especially aimed at the Cancer patients and survivors. People wear these yellow colored bands to make people aware about the symptoms, diagnosis and precautions of different types of Cancers. The funds raised by the sales are used in research and development for Cancer and its eradication. Much awareness is needed regarding Cancer which is effectively spread by people wearing the Livestrong wristbands.

Yellow is the color of sunshine, hope, happiness and positivity. All these elements are required by the Cancer patients who are supported by wearers of the Livestrong wristbands. The Livestrong bands being in vogue parallel the trend of using red folded ribbon for AIDS and the oink ribbon for breast Cancer, but have an added advantage of simultaneously being a fashion accessory. The popularity and success of the Livestrong Foundation has motivated other foundations and institutes to tread on the heels of the foundation and produce their own wristbands to raise funds. One in three people experience Cancer in a lifetime which makes it essential for the masses to know more about the deadly disease.

Being a responsible member of the society which you have been living in for so many years, it is your responsibility to add value to it.
