Friendship Year 2024 — China, DPRK & Neighborhood Diplomacy
New Year Greetings of 2024 seen with wide-opened eyes on Friendship Year 2024 declared by China and DPRK & strengthening neighborhood diplomacy.
Presidents of both countries China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) declared the year 2024 as the Year of Friendship.
This year also marks the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations between China and North Korea.
On January 1, 2024, Xinhua shared,
“In recent years, Xi said, the traditional friendly cooperation between China and the DPRK has entered a new historical period with joint efforts.
It is China’s unwavering policy to maintain, consolidate, and develop the long-standing friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.”
If this alarms Japan and South Korea in the region, China takes it purely cooperative not assertive but an extension of neighbourhood diplomacy.
Maintaining neighborhood diplomacy China has made some policies with Southeast Asian countries Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
Relaxed visa policy with Thailand.
Strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam by building a China-Vietnam community.
China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
China and India also committed to solving border issues in rounds of meetings and reaching a point of win-win situation.
China Daily wrote, “China is now the largest trading partner of 18 neighboring countries, according to the Foreign Ministry.
Beijing is action-oriented and fully sincere in developing its friendly relations with its neighbors.”
While some parts from an international perspective are unstable with ongoing wars, whether it is Friendship Year 2024 of China-DPRK or Neighbourhood Diplomacy, signals a message of purposeful liaison replacing apprehension of face-offs.
