Visa diplomacy for general passport holders is less discussed

but a pivotal aspect in bilateral relations.

Recent visa diplomacy of Malaysia, China, and the USA are examples of building bridges of cordial relationships.

Lately, Malaysia declared a one-month visa-free travel for Chinese citizens. From December 1, 2023, Chinese citizens can enjoy the facility.

Chinese New Year holidays are coming up. Last October Thailand received more Chinese tourists and made a weeklong visa-free policy for Chinese tourists.

In the current season, Malaysia’s visa-free policy will attract Chinese visitors and enhance trade and political relationships.

Likewise, this month in November China announced a visa-free policy for 6 countries including Malaysia.

They are France, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Spain.

Chinese Foreign Ministry said, “Travellers holding ordinary passports from the six countries will be able to travel to China and stay for 15 days without a visa. The program will apply to people coming to China for business, tourism, family visits, and transit purposes.”

smoothening approach towards European and Oceania countries.

Well known Visa Waiver Program (VWP) of the USA is another visa diplomacy.

The Visa Waiver Program is open for citizens of participating countries to travel to the United States for business or tourism for stays of up to 90 days without a visa.

These visa policies of countries are diplomatic-opening

avenues of soft power among countries.
