“It seems that the more places I see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. The more I become aware of, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I have still to go, how much more there is to learn.” — Anthony Bourdain

Lately, the World Economic Forum (WEF) published its Travel & Tourism Development Index for 2024.

Travel & Tourism is important for leisure and personality development. Cross-boundary trade is the outcome of travel & tourism.

The WEF published, “The latest edition of the index provides an overview of the current state of the T&T sector and the various interconnected challenges and opportunities it faces.”

“In general, the Europe and Asia-Pacific regions and high-income economies continue to have the most favorable conditions for T&T development. Out of the top 30 TTDI scorers in 2024, 26 are high-income, 19 are based in Europe, seven are in Asia-Pacific, three are in the Americas and one is in the Middle East and North Africa.”

Based on the research, the WEF suggests governments and stakeholders certain measures to bring equality in the travel and tourism sector -

- > Leverage global connectivity and peace by:

a) Increasing travel openness.

b) Encouraging cultural exchange between visitors and the local community.

- > Leverage socioeconomic prosperity by:

a) skilled, inclusive, and resilient workforces.

- > Leverage environmental sustainability by:

a) Nature conservation, energy transition & responsible consumption.

- > Leverage technology for positive impact by:

a) Creating digital opportunities.

b) Ensuring responsible and safe use of technology.

Political heads, media, and stakeholders may take the report sincerely above protectionism and a cynical set of tactics.
