Dial-A-Carol, a program at the University of Illinois, was started in December 1960 by Betty Gordon, an area office secretary, and the residents of Snyder Hall who wanted to spread some holiday cheer around campus.

Call this number 24/7, and someone will sing a Christmas carol to you

Let’s face it. 2016 has been rough.

What better way to end the year than to hear a bunch of college students belt out “All I Want for Christmas Is You” at 2 a.m.?

Students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are still carrying on the 56-year-old tradition of spending one week singing holiday carols to anyone who calls, 24/7.

Last year, they received more than 16,000 calls from 75 different countries and territories.

Dial-a-Carol starts at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8 and ends Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Call (217) 332–1882 and chase those 2016 blues away.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
